Snowy Days, Migraines, and Blue Apron Giveaway!

Good morning and Happy Monday, everybody! I hope you all had an amazing weekend. Mine was filled with relaxing, appointments, and family time. Let’s get down to the recap!

Monday

I woke up around 3AM with a migraine. This has been happening constantly over the last few months, and I am trying to stay positive and pray we find something to help me but it gets very frustrating sometimes.

Dog walk in the snow

I blame my headache for how blurry this picture is, but I got up and took Chance for a walk in the fresh snow. It was much prettier than this picture shows! I headed back inside, took more meds, and slept for a couple more hours. I went into work late and was feeling much better!

Lunch from Wendy's at work

I ended up working in radiation since I went in late. I didn’t have any lunch prepared so I headed to Wendy’s to pick up a quick lunch 🙂

When I got home from work, I did an arm and HIIT work out in my living room before taking Chance on another walk.

Pineapple Chicken Quesadillas and Salad for dinner

Then I made Chicken Pineapple quesadillas and salad for dinner! The quesadillas are from Hello Fresh.

Tuesday

Start Today journal, devotional, and green tea

I woke up wide awake at 4 in the morning so I decided to get up and get a jump start on my morning. I am finding that when I wake up before my alarm and try to go back to sleep, I wake up groggy and not ready to start my day. Now if I wake up before my alarm and it’s after 4AM, I go ahead and get up and start my day. I have felt so much better doing that! Besides the migraine I woke up with again today.. I powered through and did my devotional (100 Days to Brave) and my Start Today journal by Rachel Hollis. Doing these things in the morning really make a difference for my mindset for the rest of the day.

Chips, Guacamole, HYDROJUG, and grilled veggies

Lunch was catered by Qdoba so I had chips, guacamole, and grilled veggies. I only was able to eat a little bit of this because my head was pounding and I was nauseous. I finished up my patients, left a little early, and headed straight to bed.

Wednesday

When I woke up on Wednesday, I was still miserable. I called my neurologist, and she wanted to see me the same day. They ended up sending me to the hospital to get fluids, pain medications, and nausea medications.

IV treatment for migraine

This treatment took away my migraine for a day and a half, BUT it made me so anxious and have the worst restlessness in my life. It’s a common side effect of the nausea meds I received, but it was awful! It took everything I had to not rip my IV out and run out of the hospital. Weird, right!? We spent most of our day at the doctor’s office/hospital. Kyle made me chicken noodle soup and a grilled cheese when we got home. I had only really been able to eat saltines since my lunch on Tuesday so it was nice to have a real meal. I went to bed shortly after eating dinner.

Thursday

I woke up feeling really good on Thursday morning.

Breakfast smoothie

I had my normal breakfast smoothie and was ready for the day. I also did my devotional and Start Today journal.

I wore my new and favorite scrubs from Figs today. I have the one pocket top and jogger pants. They are so comfortable and cute! Being a nurse is definitely not about being cute, but it makes me feel better when I feel good in my clothes. Figs are expensive but definitely worth it to me. If you work all day taking care of people, you deserve it!

Salad, bread, and grilled veggies for lunch

Lunch was one of my favorites! Nameless Catering brings the best salad, bread, and grilled veggies.

Dressed for my run in the snow

Chance and I headed out for a run when I got home. I’m still doing the couch to 5K plan again in order to ramp up my speed. So far, so good!

I forgot to take a picture, but I made Chicken Penne from Hello Fresh. It was delicious!

Friday

I started my day off again with the same routine while I had my breakfast smoothie! Sadly, my migraine was back in full force this morning. It felt like there was a knife going through the right side of my head.

Chips, queso, and grilled veggies

They brought a mexican food bar. I was only able to get a little bit of this down, but it was yummy!

Aldi haul for Christmas meal

I powered through so I could make a few errands I was planning on getting done after work. I headed to Aldi to pick up most of the food we needed for Christmas. I found nearly everything which makes me so happy because Aldi is SO much cheaper than other grocery stores. We’re hosting Christmas for both sets of our parents this year, and I am so excited! After I was done, I went to the pharmacy to get the new medications I am supposed to start for my migraines.

Once I got home, I laid down and SLEPT FOR 6 HOURS!! My head was pounding when I fell asleep but felt so much better when I woke up. Kyle said I was knocked out when he came home from work so he just let me sleep until I woke up around midnight.

Honey BBQ wings for dinner

Kyle got me wings for when I woke up, and I basically inhaled them. Somehow I was able to go right back to sleep until 6 in the morning.

Saturday

We were up around 6, and I was ready to go after sleeping for the last 12 hours. I ate a Salted Peanut Butter Verb bar (my all time favorite flavor and protein bar) before heading to Orange Theory at 7.

7AM Orange Theory class

Today’s class was SO FRUSTRATING! The workout kicked my butt, and I loved feeling the burn. However, one of the medications I started for my migraines is primarily used to lower someone’s heart rate and blood pressure so the stats I was getting during class weren’t accurate. Orange Theory works by monitoring your heart rate, and that’s how it calculates how much you burn/how much energy you’re giving. All of my stats were low because my average heart rate is lower than what my monitor is used to. The instructor told me that after a few more classes, they will be able to re calibrate my monitor to my new heart rate, but until then, I’m going to have sucky stats! I’ll just have to concentrate on how I’m feeling instead of letting the monitor tell me for a while. I hope that makes sense! It’s hard to explain.

Strawberry, Banana Smoothie

When we came home, I made us smoothies with frozen strawberries and a banana, vanilla protein powder, and almond milk. Super yummy and fulfilling!

Almondmilk cappuccino with skinny mocha and peppermint sauce

After we were cleaned up and protein filled, we grabbed some coffees (Almondmilk cappuccino with 2 shot skinny mocha and 2 shots peppermint) and headed to Target. We still have so many giftcards and a discount code we have to use by Christmas since we had a wedding registry at Target. Our main goal was to get a new coffee table but we left with last minute food items for Christmas, clothes for my new niece, and a new dog toy. They didn’t have any coffee tables but we found one we liked online 🙂

After shopping, Kyle and I went to Chili’s to split chips and salsa and chicken and steak fajitas! We couldn’t believe how good the steak was.

After we got home and unloaded, we cuddled up on the couch and watched How The Grinch Stole Christmas. It’s one of my all tine favorites! (Chance is a master photobomber).

After the movie, we got ready again and headed to my parents for a Christmas dinner with my nana, aunt and uncle, and one of my brothers, sister in law, niece, and nephew!

Bai raspberry super tea in the car

Kyle had to stop for gas so I ran inside and grabbed this Bai tea and OMG it’s so good!! It’s all natural and has only 1g of sugar. It’s a great little treat.

My mom had the house decorated so cute for Christmas! I should have taken a video of everything, but here is at least a photo of the beautiful table set up! My niece, mom, and sister in law decorated the most delicious sugar cookies. I felt bad eating them because they were so beautiful, but they were also so tasty that I couldn’t resist! We hung out for a few hours before heading home and going to bed.

Sunday

I woke up around 5:30 wide awake so I got up and started working on this recap with my coffee. Has anybody else watched the show Revenge? I watched it like 5 years ago when it was on Netflix and now I’m rewatching it on Hulu. So good!

Then I had a massage appointment at 10. I’ve been getting monthly massages since summer to help with my migraines, and I am the most ready for it this month. I go to Massage Envy and pay a price every month for a massage and then get a discount if I add anything else or want an extra massage that month.

Post massage selfie with water!

Always drinking tons of water after a massage to flush out all of the toxins and to be less sore! They always have the best fruit infused water 🙂

Hello Fresh steak bowl with veggies

After my massage, I came home and we made steak bowls from Hello Fresh. Super yummy and loaded with veggies.

MRI waiting room

Real talk. I had to get an MRI of my brain today because of the changes in my migraines, and I was lowkey nervous. I get minorly claustrophobic, and I never know what situation is going to trigger it. I didn’t want to be sedated so I just toughed it out. I was reciting bible verses/Taylor Swift songs the whole time, and it got me through!

Once I got home, we relaxed and got ready for the week ahead by cleaning and doing laundry before heading to meet Kyle’s brother and his fiance for dinner. We won’t be together for Christmas so we wanted to meet up and exchange gifts! I was super excited for them to open their gifts. Tyler has been wanting a gun bag like the one I bought for Kyle a few years ago so we got him the same one in a different color. Jessie is a piano teacher so I bought her copies of the blueprints they made when they were making the piano and framed them. I love the way they turned out!

Once we got home from dinner, we went straight to bed!

I hope you all have an amazing Monday! Don’t forget to comment below. Only 2 days until Christmas!!

*Kyle and I use both Hello Fresh and Blue Apron and love them both! I am giving away a free Blue Apron box to the first person who follows my blog and answers all of the questions below! 🙂

I may have commented this before when you were talking about your headaches. I have Chiari Malformation which comes with a whole big family of problems. A good doctor who listens is important. Finding activities that naturally improve symptoms instead of just medicine has helped me. The biggest fear is knowing something is going on with your body that you didn’t cause and you can’t prevent or control. When it’s really bad, I allow myself a little self pity then move on and try and focus on all the good! Also I’ve been there with the brain MRI and I had anxiety the whole time I was in there!

Christmas will be super low key this year. Focused on family and just spending time together. In the past we’ve run around here and there and spent too much money but since we’ve just focused on being together as a family, it’s less pressure and way more special.

I LOVE ugly sweaters and all the sweet treats!

My mom has that!! I remember when a doctor first diagnosed her and told her there were no problems associated with it and I was like umm there’s no way that’s right! And it wasn’t haha I researched it and it definitely causes problems so I’m so sorry you have that! And yes, the fear is real! I try to not let it consume me, but I definitely still have my days of feeling helpless.
And that sounds amazing! We’re kind of doing the same thing, and it’s so much nicer! I feel like I waste such precious time with people when I’m rushing from one place to the next. I hope you have an amazing time!
      Ugly sweaters are the BEST!!

Do you have any medical conditions that sometimes inhibits you from living your life? How do you cope?
I struggle with severe Crohn’s disease which makes it so difficult for me to do so many things in life. I have been so unlucky with my health that I have gotten to the pt where I have had to find a job which allows me to work from home. I also CANNOT eat out because many of the oils & ingredients that they don’t tell you about at restaurants cause me to be violently ill (hence why I would love to win the blue apron) but I have found that being creative in the kitchen and working from home allows me to manage my symptoms and semi-enjoy my life!
    What are you Christmas plans?
No big plans for Christmas this year. I may watch a movie and just hang around the apartment before heading over to my moms for a few hours!
What is your favorite thing about Christmas?
My favorite thing about Christmas day is that it is ONE day a year where it is OKAY to do absolutely NOTHING! <3

What are you most looking forward to in the NEW YEAR?

    • Miriam Leigh says:

Holy moly Crohn’s is a beast of a disease. I’ve had patients come in for fluids/medications during a flare up, and I feel terrible for you guys! It is no joke. I can see how it changes your whole lifestyle!
And that sounds like a great day!! Doing nothing is the best sometimes. 🙂
And Kyle and I are moving to Nashville in April, and I am so excited!! He is going back to school so we have to relocate.

      • Lindsay says:

Miriam that is going to be such a big adjustment moving to a new place … please let me know if you need any support as you prepare for the big move. Nothing about moving is easy especially when you aren’t the one with school or a job already lined up!

      • Miriam Leigh says:

Thank you, Lindsay! We are super excited, but it is definitely nerve racking for me since I have to try to get a job before we move. I know it’ll work out, but it’s still hard!
