Finding a time to work out has been an ongoing struggle for me since day 1. I always had an excuse to hit snooze or stay home after work instead of heading out for a run. I still struggle with following through on my daily work out, but a few small changes have made the biggest difference for me. I have to be at work at 7 AM, and my commute is thirty minutes. Yepp, that means I wake up at 4 AM most mornings in order to fit everything in. When I first planned my mornings out, I thought there was NO WAY that I was going to be able to get up that early. I tried and failed multiples times to do it. I failed because I was trying to change too much too fast. If you want to make a habit stick, you have to take it slow.
So for a couple of weeks, I started waking up 10-15 minutes earlier every morning. It made going from waking up to 6 AM to 4 AM much easier. I also try to keep my morning schedule the same even on days that I do not work. Trust me, there are still nights where I stay up way too late and sleep in, but I try not to make that a habit! I can not stress how much this has helped me!
Picking out all of my clothes the night before has helped me tremendously, as well. That means I set out my work out clothes next to my scrubs so that when I wake up, they are all ready to go. I also like to mix my preworkout the night before so it’s ready too 🙂
I am also a huge planner so I usually write out my workout plan for the week the weekend before so I don’t have to worry about it the day of. I like to switch between running, walking, biking, elliptical, and yoga. Rest days are also incorporated in!
My go to breakfast is a smoothie. It keeps me going and energizes me for the day ahead! It isn’t too filling but still keeps me satisfied until lunch. I usually eat this after my morning workout. Here is the recipe 🙂
- 1 cup or more almond milk
- 1 cup unsweetened, black cold brew coffee
- 1 frozen banana ( I break up the bananas into pieces and freeze them in plastic bags)
- 1 handful ice
- 1 scoop protein powder
- 1 dash unsweetened cocoa powder
